In 1996, Isaiah House Director Kathie Quinlan wrote in our first Aftersongs:
“Founded in 1987, Isaiah House, Corpus Christi’s Home for the Dying, continues to offer residence for up to two persons with irreversible illness who have been determined to be within the last three months of their lives. Hospitality and comfort(palliative) care are rendered in an atmosphere of dignity and love and in cooperation with a certified health agency and the resident’s physician. We resonate with Isaiah 40:1 –‘Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God.’ “Our message of gratitude extends to all those generous hearts who, in myriad ways, have maintained this gentle ministry over the past nine years, sharing with us gifts of time, talents, and financial support. We are awed and humbled by this faithfulness. “Those who are dying are beautiful teachers. Such lessons we have learned! We hope to share some of the stories with you in this newsletter, Aftersongs. Our lives are enriched beyond measure when we accept the eventuality of our own deaths and are free to live fully – and thankfully – each moment”.
Now, 20 years later, Isaiah House continues its journey of service to the Rochester community, with its own endings and new beginnings. Inspired by the passion and vision of our retired director, Kathie Quinlan and its dedicated staff and volunteers, Isaiah House has been blessed with the opportunity to serve over 350 dying residents, their friends.
